Turkish literature, due to its inclusive religious features, appears as a literature based on Islam religion and religious sources from its earliest samples and preserves this significant characteristic throughout its history until the Republican period. The most apparent aspect of this characteristic is Sufism which has the most comprehensive influence on our literature.
From the Tanzimat period which we begin to communicate with Western values, this dominant feature tended to slow down and Western culture and literature begins to find a broader place in Turkish literature, culture and art. Especially aid of some new genres such as novel and theater, removing from this religious-based characteristic becomes clear in progress of time.
It is possible to see that how determinant this profound religious effect, in investigating of Turkish literature into three periods from Fuad Köprülü: Pre-Islamic Turkish Literature, Turkish Literature Under Islamic Influence and Turkish Literature Under Western Influence. From becoming Muslim of Turks, the second and the longest period under the integrative influence of Islamic culture and civilization continues for approximately ten centuries.
However, the present position of a literature which we regard its fundamentals as the Holy Quran, Sunnah-Hadith (deeds and saying of the Prophet), Qisas al-Anbiya (the stories of the prophets) and Sufism (the science of mysticism) propounds a different appearance from the frame that we made until here.
Now, we as Yagmur Magazine decided to organize such a symposium to point out the mother lodes of Turkish literature once again, to rethink, to make think about and to examine the literature and the desired meaning from the literature.
